Maximum Value Programming created this Virtual Medical Simulation, the first in a series of 5, for Philips Healthcare in 2010. This groundbreaking new application demonstrated a totally new way of training clinicians on new procedures using new medical equipment and is a powerful demonstration of the uniquely integrated in-house design and development services that the company has to offer. Through the use of integrated video, voice-over narration, animation, 3D modeling, photography, and custom interactivity programming, physicians can learn how to perform operations with new equipment in a beautiful virtual lab environment. In this manner, hundreds of trainees can learn in a uniform manner from one destination point, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming in-person training to accomplish the same.
The program begins with a video introduction delivered by an on-screen spokesperson integrated seamlessly within the custom virtual lab environment. It then progresses to a step-by-step animation of the XperCT and XperGuide procedures. Trainees then progress to an active simulation where they learn to execute the steps of the procedures themselves in a realistic virtual environment. Upon successful completion trainees are awarded a personalized certificate of completion. Furthermore, trainees could complete the training using their iPads or smartphones, offering additional convenience. The app proved so successful upon rollout that physicians were even training on it during their off time. The success of the app was acknowledged formally by Philips and later by its win of the first ever annual Tabby Award in 2012 for Best Healthcare App, the first year the national award was offered.
